Bite Size Taco Turnovers
Ingredients:
1/2 pound ground beef – the better the cut, the less fat you’ll have
1/4 cup taco sauce – mild, medium or spicy – whatever you like most
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 cup shredded cheese – any flavor will work but Cheddar is outstanding
1 egg
1 teaspoon of water
1 refrigerated pizza dough in a roll
Start off by preparing the filling. Brown the ground beef in a small skillet until completely cooked. Drain off the excess fat and return the meat to the heat. Stir in the chili powder, garlic powder and onion powder. Stir this well and then set the pan aside.
Open the pizza dough and unroll it. You may need to stretch or roll it until it becomes a 14 x 10 1/2 inch rectangle. Carefully cut the pizza dough into twelve even pieces about 3 1/2 inches square.
Next you will want to spoon a little of the meat onto each of the twelve squares until it is evenly distributed. Sprinkle each square with cheese. Using a small pastry brush, brush two sides of the square with water. Pull the corners together and press with a fork. Place the stuffed triangle on a greased baking sheet.
Prick each triangle with a fork to allow steam to escape. Combine the egg and the water which will be brushed over the tops of the turnovers. Bake the turnovers in a 425 degree Fahrenheit oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until the dough is golden brown.
Remove the Bite Size Taco Turnovers from the oven and allow them to cool for five minutes. Transfer the turnovers to a serving dish and enjoy,
